Each year, Swiss watch brand Blancpain surprises us with a stunning watch created for women for Valentine’s Day. Generally, that watch has some sort of heart motif. This year, it is subtle — and beautiful. The new Blancpain Villeret Valentine Ultraplate watch features a cloud-motif mother-of-pearl dial with diamond and ruby markers and snowfall of additional diamonds on the dial.
In total 19 brilliant-cut diamonds grace the dial in a “star- setting” technique, wherein a metal base is used to secure the stone into the dial. Additionally, the watch features an exquisite sapphire moon phase disk — revealed via a crescent moon shaped aperture at an angle to 6:00. The moon has a feminine face with an artificial “beauty spot” at the corner of its smiling mouth. The seconds hand takes the form of a Cupid’s arrow — complete with a red heart though the arrow.
The 29.20 mm watch is crafted in steel and the bezel is set with 48 diamonds. The watch is powered by the self-winding 913 L movement with a glucydur balance wheel and silicon balance spring — bringing brains and beauty to the forefront. The meticulously finished movement can be viewed from the sapphire case back, which also reveals an oscillating weight adorned with a heart pierced by sunbeams and an arrow. The watch is finished with a bright red alligator strap. Just 99 pieces will be made.
