Last week’s Magnificent Jewels auction by Christie’s New York yielded nearly $60 million in sales. Diamonds were the big seller, with the top lot fetching more than $4 million. The Victory Diamond ring with a D-color rectangular cut superb diamond weighing 31.34 carats sold for $4,309,000 – averaging about $137,500 per carat. D color is the highest, purest color for a colorless diamond, and yesterday’s auction saw several of them up for sale. One D color 43.79-carat cushion-cut diamond ring also sold for more than $4 million, and a magnificent 103.66-carat diamond pendant necklace sold for $3,749,000.
