Baume & Mercier Brings the Concept of Small Watches to the Forefront with Petite Promesse

As the trend in women’s watches is tending to go down in size — Baume & Mercier picks up the pace: unveiling the stunning 22mm Petite Promesse watch. While the original Promesse watch line is 34 and 36 mm in size, the dramatically smaller 22mm holds its own when it comes to statement-making thanks to bold and beautiful boule wrap bracelets and straps in bight orange, vivid blue and shimmering steel that offer some pretty impressive sensual appeal. The new watch embraces the individualistic style of the 1970s with the three bold color choices: bright orange, rich bold blue and a shimmering stainless steel bracelet that is so soft and flexible that it feels like silk against the wrist. At once both delicate and fashion forward, the Petite Promesse collection features mother-of-pearl dials, diamond accents and a hidden crown. Setting is executed via a button on the caseback so that a crown does not mar the sleek elliptical case shape. Each also comes with a single-wrap black strap. There are two versions offered, one with 22 diamonds on the case, and another with 44 diamonds. The new 22mm Petite Promesse — coming to stores now — retails for $2,450 to $3,300.  ...

Actress Susan Sarandon Talks About Time

Actress Susan Sarandon Talks About Time

Earlier this year, thanks to our friends at IWC, we had the opportunity to meet with actress and political and charitable activist Susan Sarandon. As a result of that interview, our founder, Robertaa Naas, wrote an in-depth article for Gotham Magazine. Now, we bring you some excerpts of that article about how time factors in to Sarandon’s life. How does time play a role in your life? “I think time is arbitrary and we have to make our own time. If you see the great athletes when they are in the zone- they make time count, they are in the moment. It would be great if, as ordinary people, we could do the same thing as an athlete does, be really in the zone, present and make time our own like that. Does time get away from you when you are working? “When I’m in a film, I need to not be aware do time. When you are making films, you are doing the same thing over and over again, so your sense of reality is complete warped. You can be doings something all day long that will actually only be a minute and a half in a film, so you suspend time when you are making a film.” Do you remember the exact moment you knew you wanted to be an actress? “No, I didn’t know I was going to be an actress. I never studied acting and I never wanted to be an actor, I just kind of fell into it. That’s probably what made it easier for me, because I didn’t take it that seriously. But then, after I did it for awhile and paid off all my school debts, I thought, ‘Well, I guess this is what I do.’ I find acting curious and amusing. You get to travel; you...
Introducing the Montblanc Boheme Watches for Women Only — Switzerland is Paying Attention

Introducing the Montblanc Boheme Watches for Women Only — Switzerland is Paying Attention

Three years ago I wrote my fourth watch book – the first one dedicated to women: Jewels of Time. I was ahead of my time – I generally tend to be. People liked the book but women’s watches were not all the rage. This year, I have just finished writing my third book on women’s watches – slated to be published around the holidays. Women’s watches have become a real phenomenon in the world of fine Swiss timepieces. Today, brands are paying closer attention to what women want under the hood and are pulling out all the stops to bring great new women-only collections to the forefront. Among those doing so – Montblanc, which just unveiled the Boheme Collection. The line, complete with a perpetual calendar for less than $20,000, is elegant, classic and for women only. While the name Boheme has belonged to Montblanc’s writing instrument line up for years, it was never translated to a timepiece until now—under the direction of visionary thinker, Jerome Lambert.   After spending just over a year conducting research and development, Montblanc makes a splash with automatic and mechanical timepieces – with and without diamonds – in several sizes that are aimed at the sophisticated woman. “Boehme is a name that has existed at Montblanc and sort of stand for a philosophy of ‘I go my own way,’” says Jerome Lambert. “This line is for women who want to do things a bit differently. It is artistic and is a creative choice for women who make their own decisions.” Indeed, the timepieces have a certain harmony of balance to them, with round cases, inner dials with a tiny cutaway on some to make room for the date on some models, and an incredibly complex guilloché dial. In fact, explains Lambert, depending on...
